Founding member of the Swiss Confederation, the canton of Uri is located in the center of Switzerland and presents many cultural peculiarities.

Music is deeply rooted in the population: there are more than 70 popular music orchestras in this canton of 35,000 inhabitants.

The International Music Festival "Alpentöne" and the Altdorf Popular Music Festival are the two key events of the year.
