La Chaux-de-Fonds is a Swiss city in the canton of Neuchâtel, located about at 70 km north-west of Bern in the Jura mountains, 10 km from the border with France. It is the first municipality of the canton of Neuchâtel in terms of population. The third French-speaking town, located at 1000 meters above sea level, La Chaux-de-Fonds was rebuilt according to a checkerboard plan that is still an originality in Swiss cities, after a fire that devastated the city in 1794.

City of birth of the architect Le Corbusier, the navigator Laurent Bourgnon, the writer Blaise Cendrars and the car manufacturer Louis Chevrolet, La Chaux-de-Fonds is a renowned center of Art Nouveau.

Since June 2009, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its "watchmaking urbanism" that reflects the special needs of a single-industry activity, mixing housing and workshops.

• May Day;
