"Avignon: City of tourism and culture"

Avignon is a major city in southeastern France, located at the confluence of the Rhône and the Durance. This is the city where the council of Greater Avignon sits. Avignon is the capital of the district of Avignon and the department of Vaucluse in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The city of Avignon was the capital of European culture in 2000.

The cultural identity of Avignon shines in France and abroad through its festival, the performing arts and its intense cultural proliferation throughout the year. The richness of its heritage, much of which is listed as UNESCO World Heritage, attracts people from all over the world and livens up the cultural life of the city.
